Safeguarding

At Little Beeches Nursery we acknowledge our moral and statutory obligation to safeguard and enhance the welfare of every child in our care. We strive to create a secure and welcoming environment where children and their families are respected and valued. We are vigilant in recognising signs and indicators of abuse and neglect, and we adhere to recognised local and national procedures to ensure all children receive effective support and protection.

According to the Department of Education, as outlined in the Keeping Children Safe in Education guidance, safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children involves:

• providing help and support to meet the needs of children as soon as problems emerge

• protecting children from maltreatment, whether that is within or outside the home, including online

• preventing the impairment of children’s mental and physical health or development

• ensuring that children grow up in circumstances consistent with the provision of safe and effective care

• taking action to enable all children to have the best outcomes.

Our foremost priority is always the safety and well-being of the children in our care.  By law, we are required to follow recommended procedures for the reporting of suspected child abuse and neglect. Where a child’s personal safety is concerned, we may have to contact outside agencies such as children’s social care and/or the police as a legal responsibility before we speak to a parent or carer. We fully understand that this can be a very distressing set of circumstances. Our nursery follows the procedures required by Somerset Safeguarding Children’s Partnership, they are responsible in Somerset, for ensuring agencies work together to safeguard children and testing how effectively this happens.

The Prevent Duty

Under the Counter-Terrorism and Security Act 2015 we have a duty to refer any concerns of extremism to the police

This may be a cause for concern relating to a change in behaviour of a child or family member, comments causing concern made to a member of the team (or other persons in the setting) or actions that lead staff to be worried about the safety of a child in their care.

We promote British values at nursery and to find out more about this and how we promote it, please click the link Cultural Capital and British Values
